American chemist (28/2 / 1901-19 / 8/1994). World famous as the second person after Marie Curie to receive two Nobel Prizes: the 1954 Chemistry and the 1962 Peace Prize. Linus Carl Pauling is born in Portland, Oregon, the son of a pharmacist.

He graduated in chemical engineering in 1922 from Oregon State University and specializes in physical chemistry at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena in 1925. During the 1930s, he studied the distances between atoms. and makes a fundamental contribution to the knowledge of the binding forces between molecules.

In The nature of Chemical Bonds and theMolecule and Crystal Structure (1939), demonstrates the laws governing the stability of the atom through the Theory of Valencia. X-ray research into molecular structure revolutionizes both inorganic and biochemistry chemistry.

He wins the Nobel Peace Prize for systematically fighting nuclear weapons proliferation and nuclear testing and fighting for the reduction of the nuclear arsenal. Dies in Big Sur, California.
